Back to Blogging

Here we are, almost May of 2010 and I finally have Internet......I am letting out a huge "whooooooo hooooo!" It's been a long time coming. Unfortunately I have to wait till the hubby gets home to use the lap top, but at least I get to blog again (something which the hubby hates:() Hopefully he'll come around..or leave the computer with me during the day so I can blog when he is not home (not out of disrespect but courtesy)

Since my last update, we bought our first house, which is an amazing feeling!

(Evan will be working on the landscaping soon)

I loved our little charming 1 bedroom apartment and Dixie Jean's baby nook (aka the foyer turned into a room), but I feel like I can breathe now. God has blessed us to be able to have this new place. 3 bedrooms 2 baths, a nice sized fenced in yard and a garden tub for momma (our old place only had a standing shower since it was built for an elderly person...it has been over a year since I have soaked in a tub). It is perfect for our little family.

(Farewell Baby Nook...you will never be forgotten)

Dixie Jean has her own room now and although it took her a little while getting used to being in such a grand space (in her eyes), she now enjoys looking around upon awakening from nap time. I am looking forward to decorating her room now. In the works: a decal with her name.... and a whimsical tree blowing in the wind painted on her wall. Can't wait till it's all dolled up.

The spare room still has boxes waiting to be unpacked, but I find myself trying not to look every time I walk by (then it's like it doesn't exist). Stuff still needs to be hung on the walls to add that finishing homey touch (usually what I want done before we unpack the unnecessary boxes...but I couldn't work a hammer and nail if I tried...so we leave that to the hubby who has been super busy with work lately). I know it will all come around in due time.

I am loving our new living room set that we got from Rooms to Go. I changed my mind on what we wanted 2 times and I thought the sales lady was going to shoot fire out of her eyes at me, luckily she didn't:) When the furniture actually came in, I decided I really liked it and Rooms to Go needed to hire me as an interior designer since I mixed and matched all the furniture and was pleasantly pleased with the aesthetics of it (as was my hubby). I thought if there was ever a time the hubs was gonna kill me, it was when I kept changing my mind over furniture. I picked out the house much faster than the furniture. But it is all done now and praise the Lord! I hate making decisions! I will post pictures when everything is in place.

Dixie Jean is getting so big! She is now 10 months and rather than crawling, she scoots around using one leg to drag her forward and pulling with her arms. She is all over the place now, especially enjoying scooting around on the wood laminate floor. The other day she discovered the front bathroom (here we go). She babbles all the time, especially after her morning bottle. It's like she has to tell us all about her dreams. She is very affectionate (especially to momma), but is also very clingy:( She has also started to get attitude. Already I see it: a push of the hand when she doesn't want something or a "ughhhh" or "ahhhh." Just more of a confirmation that we are born with a sin nature. She loves being around other kids though, and will laugh at them all day. She is going to be a great big sister one day:) We are still working on growing some hair...one day.

I am still selling my aprons in BR (it's been a little slow, but I don't mind). I have not been in much of a sewing mood lately. I am tutoring on the side for a little extra money and enjoy being able to be a teacher again (at least to 1 student). Evan is super busy with lawn care, which is wonderful for business but not for family time. Is it bad to say that I prefer the winter when he's home more often??? I am thankful for God's provision and continued blessings on the business. I just miss the hubs.

Well...I look forward to more frequent posts but for now it's time to hit the sack...Dixie Jean will be awake before I know it and momma needs rest:)

Jan 2010 update

How I long to have Internet so I could blog every day. I miss it so much.

Evan just returned from hiking the Appalachian trail for a week. He had a great time and finished early so he is home 4 days earlier than expected...wooohoo! The highlight story: they slept in a bathroom aka outhouse with no plumbing one night to escape the -50 degree windchill. It was -15 degrees in the bathroom but they claimed it was a God send. The pictures are beautiful and look like a Winter Wonderland...don't know how he does it or why he enjoys it, but I am glad he gets to live out his man adventures (at least for 1 week a year)

I am enjoying making aprons and selling them at a store in Baton Rouge. Christmas season was great for business and I am hoping it continues as the new year approaches. I had to make 25 aprons in 2 days after returning from Texas for Christmas because I was wiped out of stock. I sewed all day and all night and after that did not want to look at my sewing machine for a while. I gave myself a week break and now I am ready to start again. Who would have known this little business would do so well. Guess there are still a lot of domesticated women out there...or ones who just want to look cute while pretending to be domesticated.

Dixie Jean is doing great and getting big. She is 6 months old, sitting up, rolling over, eating solid foods and babbling like crazy. We are enjoying every minute with her...except when she seals her mouth shut to avoid eating squash:) She has been such a blessing and we would be thrilled to give her a little sibling whenever God is ready to bless us with another one. Until then..she gets smothered with kisses and hugs.

That is the small McGinty family update. Wish I could post more "fun" stuff, but Dixie is talking across the library....don't think she knows the "quiet rule" yet.

October update

I have been keeping super busy lately. I am sewing like crazy...ok well maybe not crazy but whenever I can squeeze it in. My goal was to get into the Farmer's Market this month, however they are booked for the date I wanted. So, I figured I will simply keep making inventory until I do get in. It's been fun with little pressure. You can check out any of the new aprons on facebook (Apple Pie Aprons).

Dixie is drooling and eating her hand constantly...I am thinking she is beginning to teethe...oh boy. She finally has a double chin and 1 roll on her legs. Although, compared to most babies her age..she is teeniny....I'm trying to fatten her up. I am thinking she is going to be a daddy's girl and she definitely is a TV fanatic...Not good! If one is on in the room she will break her neck to see it. Dixie is going to be a bumblebee for Halloween thanks to DD. We had professional pictures taken in the outfit and it is the most adorable thing I have ever seen. I am looking forward to her wearing it all night:) She has also been enjoying club cousins once a week where all of the cousins get together, have lunch and play.

Evan is still busy with lawn care and is praying for the rain to stop and cooler air to come in...my poor hubby is dying in that heat! He is loving Dixie Jean to pieces and is thrilled that she is the spitting image of him.

That's about it for now.

Daddy Boot Camp

Evan took Dixie with him to Daddy Boot camp this morning. Since he is now a "veteran" dad he was going to talk with and answer questions for expectant dads. It was so cute watching him walk into the hospital as proud papa with his Dixie Jean in tote. He requested that I put a flower on her head. I dressed her in her I love Daddy shirt and blue jean skirt. He is such an amazing father and I am so glad that Dixie is going to have such a positive role model in her life in her father. So mommy is at the coffee shop with 4 hours of "free time!" I am loving this but I miss my 2 favorite people already. Hopefully Dixie and Evan are showing these new daddies the ropes and maybe they'll even be so lucky as for her to fill up her diaper and let them change her :)

Quick update

I'm finally at the coffe shop and able to do a quick update....yea!!! Dixie is getting big (10 weeks today)..she is 9 lbs 2 oz now. That is probably because I have been giving her formula to supplement her after every feeding..I never would have thought that I would have problems breastfeeding, but here we are. She is smiling all the time now and getting such a personality. She loves watching sports with daddy (really she is just amused by tv..GREAT!) She likes family reading time and her new rainforest music thingy in her crib. Evan has been working hard, but as fall approaches business will unfortunately slow down (good for family time..not so good for the bank account). I am sewing a lot (By the way Apple Pie Aprons has moved to facebook) and absolutely loving being a mommy and housewife. I am a lucky girl! Here are some recent pictures:

All the cousins
" And baby blue was the color of her eyes.."

Daddy loves carrying her in the B'jorn!
